Baird's tapir
Baird's tapir is a large herbivorous mammal native to Central America, particularly found in countries like Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras. It has a distinctive body shape, with a stout build, short legs, and a long, flexible snout that resembles a trunk. Baird's tapirs are typically dark brown or black with lighter markings, helping them blend into their forest habitats.
These animals are primarily nocturnal and are excellent swimmers, often found near rivers and wetlands. Baird's tapirs play a crucial role in their ecosystem by dispersing seeds, which helps maintain the health of their forest environments. They are currently classified as endangered due to habitat loss and hunting.
