Baelo Claudia
Baelo Claudia is an ancient Roman city located near the town of Tarifa in southern Spain. Founded in the 1st century BC, it served as an important trading port, particularly for the fish-salting industry. The site features well-preserved ruins, including a forum, temples, and an amphitheater, showcasing the architectural style of the Roman Empire.
The city was strategically positioned near the Strait of Gibraltar, allowing for trade with both the Mediterranean and Atlantic regions. Baelo Claudia was eventually abandoned in the 7th century AD, but its historical significance continues to attract visitors and researchers interested in Roman history.
