Bâlea Lake
Bâlea Lake is a glacial lake located in the Făgăraș Mountains of Romania. Situated at an altitude of 2,034 meters, it is one of the highest lakes in the country. The lake covers an area of about 4.6 hectares and reaches a maximum depth of 11 meters. It is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery, making it a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts.
The lake is accessible via the Transfăgărășan road, which is known for its breathtaking views. In winter, Bâlea Lake often freezes over, creating a unique winter landscape. The area is also home to various wildlife, including chamois and brown bears, adding to its natural charm.
