Azerbaijani Democratic Republic
The Azerbaijani Democratic Republic was established in 1918, becoming the first secular democratic republic in the Muslim world. It emerged after the collapse of the Russian Empire and aimed to create a modern state based on democratic principles. The republic lasted until 1920 when it was invaded by Soviet forces.
During its brief existence, the republic implemented progressive reforms, including women's suffrage, making it one of the first countries to grant women the right to vote. The Azerbaijani Democratic Republic laid the groundwork for modern Azerbaijan, influencing its political landscape even after the Soviet era.
