Ayyappa
Ayyappa is a popular Hindu deity primarily worshipped in the southern Indian state of Kerala. He is believed to be the son of Lord Shiva and Vishnu in his female form as Mohini. Ayyappa is often depicted as a young man with a black complexion, wearing a simple dress and holding a bell and a sword. His most famous temple is located in Sabarimala, which attracts millions of pilgrims annually.
The worship of Ayyappa is associated with a strict 41-day fasting period, during which devotees follow specific rituals and abstain from certain foods. The pilgrimage to Sabarimala is marked by a unique tradition of wearing black or blue attire and carrying a sacred offering known as Irumudi. Ayyappa symbolizes unity, devotion, and the overcoming of obstacles.
