Avar Khaganate
The Avar Khaganate was a powerful state established by the Avars, a nomadic group from Central Asia, in the 6th century. It emerged in the region of the Carpathian Basin and played a significant role in the politics of Eastern Europe. The Avars were known for their military prowess and established a vast empire that included various Slavic and Germanic tribes.
At its height, the Avar Khaganate controlled a large territory and served as a buffer between the Byzantine Empire and other tribes. The khagan, or ruler, led the Avars in numerous campaigns, expanding their influence. However, by the 9th century, the khaganate began to decline due to internal strife and external pressures, eventually falling to the Frankish Empire.
