Austrian Netherlands
The Austrian Netherlands refers to the region that is now part of modern-day Belgium and was under the control of the Habsburg Monarchy from 1714 to 1795. This territory was established after the War of the Spanish Succession and was governed by the Austrian Empire. It included provinces such as Brabant, Flanders, and Namur.
During its time as the Austrian Netherlands, the region experienced economic growth and cultural development, particularly in the arts. The governance of the Habsburgs aimed to integrate the region more closely with their other territories, leading to both prosperity and tensions with local populations, ultimately culminating in the Brabant Revolution of 1789.
