Australian Wheat Board
The Australian Wheat Board (AWB) was established in 1939 to manage the marketing of wheat in Australia. It aimed to ensure fair prices for farmers and maintain a stable supply of wheat for domestic and international markets. The board operated as a single desk exporter, meaning it was the sole entity allowed to sell Australian wheat overseas.
In 2008, the AWB was restructured and its monopoly on wheat exports was removed, leading to increased competition in the market. The organization played a significant role in shaping the wheat industry in Australia, influencing both agricultural practices and trade policies.
