Augustus FitzRoy
Augustus FitzRoy was a British naval officer and politician, born on July 28, 1819. He is best known for his role as the second Governor of the Colony of New Zealand from 1843 to 1845. FitzRoy's tenure was marked by challenges, including conflicts with the indigenous Māori people and issues related to land disputes.
In addition to his governorship, FitzRoy served as a Member of Parliament and was involved in various scientific endeavors. He is also recognized for his contributions to meteorology, particularly through his work with the Meteorological Office in the United Kingdom. FitzRoy passed away on August 30, 1858.
