Astronomical Tables
Astronomical tables are systematic listings of celestial events and positions of celestial bodies, such as planets and stars, over time. They provide essential data for navigation, calendar-making, and understanding the movements of the Earth, Moon, and Sun. These tables have been used for centuries by astronomers and navigators to predict phenomena like eclipses and the rising and setting of stars.
Historically, various cultures, including the Babylonians, Greeks, and Chinese, developed their own astronomical tables. The most famous of these is the Almagest, written by the ancient Greek astronomer Ptolemy, which compiled knowledge of the heavens and influenced astronomy for many centuries.
