Assembly of First Nations
The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is a national advocacy organization in Canada that represents First Nations. Established in 1982, it aims to promote and protect the rights and interests of Indigenous peoples across the country. The AFN works to address issues such as governance, education, health, and land rights, ensuring that First Nations have a voice in decision-making processes.
The AFN is led by a National Chief and is composed of representatives from various First Nations communities. It collaborates with federal and provincial governments, as well as other organizations, to advance the goals of the Indian Act and support the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
