Assembly of Experts
The Assembly of Experts is a body in the Islamic Republic of Iran responsible for electing the Supreme Leader and overseeing their activities. Members are elected by the public every eight years and must be Islamic scholars with expertise in religious law and theology. The assembly plays a crucial role in maintaining the Islamic governance structure.
In addition to electing the Supreme Leader, the Assembly of Experts has the authority to supervise their performance and can theoretically remove them if deemed necessary. The assembly consists of 88 members, reflecting a mix of political and religious perspectives within the framework of the Iranian political system.
