Asian Flush
Asian Flush, also known as Asian Glow, is a common reaction experienced by some individuals of East Asian descent after consuming alcohol. This condition is characterized by facial redness, increased heart rate, and other symptoms due to the body's inability to effectively metabolize alcohol.
The primary cause of Asian Flush is a deficiency in an enzyme called aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2). When alcohol is consumed, it is converted into acetaldehyde, a toxic substance. In individuals with ALDH2 deficiency, acetaldehyde accumulates in the body, leading to the flushing response and potential long-term health risks, including an increased chance of certain cancers.
