Ashta Mathas
The Ashta Mathas are eight monastic institutions established by Madhvacharya, the founder of the Dvaita school of philosophy in Hinduism. Located in Udupi, Karnataka, these Mathas serve as centers for spiritual learning and practice, each led by a different head monk known as a Swamiji. They play a crucial role in preserving and promoting the teachings of Madhvacharya.
Each Matha is associated with a specific deity and has its own unique rituals and traditions. The eight Mathas are Puttige, Sode, Kaniyoor, Krishnapura, Pejavara, Admar, Shirur, and Palimaru. Together, they contribute to the rich cultural and religious heritage of the region.
