Arias Peace Plan
The Arias Peace Plan is a diplomatic initiative aimed at resolving conflicts in Central America, particularly during the civil wars of the 1980s. Named after Oscar Arias, the former President of Costa Rica, the plan sought to promote peace and democracy in the region through negotiations and agreements among warring factions.
The plan emphasized the importance of human rights, economic development, and political reforms. It led to the signing of several key agreements, including the Esquipulas Accords, which helped to reduce violence and foster cooperation among Central American countries, ultimately contributing to a more stable political landscape.
