Antitussives
Antitussives are medications designed to suppress coughing. They work by acting on the cough center in the brain or by soothing the throat and airways. Commonly used for dry coughs, they help provide relief and improve comfort, especially during sleep.
There are two main types of antitussives: opioid and non-opioid. Opioid antitussives, like codeine, are effective but may have side effects and are usually prescribed for more severe cases. Non-opioid options, such as dextromethorphan, are available over-the-counter and are often found in cough syrups and cold medications.
