Antero de Quental
Antero de Quental was a Portuguese poet and philosopher born on April 18, 1842, in Ponta Delgada, Azores. He is known for his contributions to the Portuguese literary movement called Romanticism and later for his role in the Generation of 70, which sought to modernize Portuguese literature. His works often reflect themes of existentialism and social criticism.
In addition to poetry, Quental was an influential thinker and wrote essays on various subjects, including philosophy and politics. He was also a key figure in the establishment of the Academia das Ciências de Lisboa. Antero de Quental passed away on September 11, 1891, leaving a lasting impact on Portuguese literature.
