Anterior Scalene
The anterior scalene is a muscle located in the neck, part of the scalene group. It originates from the cervical vertebrae and inserts into the first rib. This muscle plays a role in elevating the first rib during breathing and assists in neck flexion and lateral bending.
In addition to its primary functions, the anterior scalene is important for the passage of nerves and blood vessels. The brachial plexus and the subclavian artery run between the anterior and middle scalene muscles, making this area significant for both respiratory and neurological functions.
