Antanas Škėma
Antanas Škėma was a notable Lithuanian writer and playwright, born on December 24, 1910, in Šakiai, Lithuania. He is best known for his contributions to modern Lithuanian literature, particularly through his novel "Balta drobulė" (The White Shroud), which explores themes of identity and existentialism. Škėma's works often reflect the struggles of the Lithuanian people during turbulent historical periods.
In addition to his literary achievements, Škėma was also involved in the Lithuanian diaspora after World War II, living in Germany and later in the United States. His experiences as an émigré influenced his writing, as he sought to capture the complexities of displacement and cultural identity. He passed away on April 17, 1961, in New York City.
