Anoplopoma fimbria, commonly known as the sablefish or black cod, is a species of fish found in the North Pacific Ocean. It typically inhabits deep waters, often at depths of 200 to 2,000 meters. Sablefish are known for their rich, buttery flavor and high oil content, making them a popular choice in culinary dishes.
This fish has a distinctive appearance, featuring a dark, almost black coloration on its back and a lighter belly. Sablefish can grow up to 1 meter in length and weigh over 20 kilograms. They are also notable for their long lifespan, often living for more than 50 years.
