Anobium punctatum
Anobium punctatum, commonly known as the common furniture beetle, is a small wood-boring insect belonging to the family Anobiidae. Adults are typically about 2 to 5 mm long and have a brownish color with a distinctive oval shape. They are often found in wooden structures and furniture, where they can cause significant damage by tunneling through the wood.
The larvae of Anobium punctatum feed on cellulose found in wood, leading to weakened structures over time. Infestations are often identified by small exit holes in the wood and fine powdery frass. Effective control measures include proper wood treatment and maintaining low humidity levels to deter their presence.
