Anna Politkovskaya
Anna Politkovskaya was a Russian journalist and human rights activist known for her courageous reporting on the Second Chechen War. Born on August 30, 1958, she worked for the newspaper Novaya Gazeta, where she highlighted the suffering of civilians and criticized the Russian government's actions in Chechnya.
Politkovskaya's work earned her both national and international recognition, but it also made her a target. She faced threats and harassment due to her outspoken views. Tragically, she was assassinated on October 7, 2006, in Moscow, which sparked widespread outrage and raised concerns about press freedom in Russia.
