Anemia of Inflammation
Anemia of Inflammation is a type of anemia that occurs in response to chronic diseases or infections. It is characterized by a decrease in red blood cells due to the body's immune response, which can interfere with iron metabolism and red blood cell production. Conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, chronic kidney disease, and cancer are common causes.
In this condition, the body produces inflammatory substances that can inhibit the production of erythropoietin, a hormone that stimulates red blood cell formation. Additionally, inflammation can lead to the sequestration of iron, making it less available for red blood cell synthesis. This results in lower hemoglobin levels and fatigue.
