André Rebouças
André Rebouças was a Brazilian engineer and inventor born on March 7, 1838, in the city of Salvador. He is known for his significant contributions to civil engineering and infrastructure development in Brazil during the 19th century. Rebouças was one of the first Afro-Brazilian engineers and played a crucial role in various projects, including the construction of railways and bridges.
In addition to his engineering work, Rebouças was an advocate for social reforms, particularly concerning the abolition of slavery in Brazil. He was a member of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts and collaborated with other prominent figures of his time, promoting education and equality. Rebouças passed away on January 22, 1898, in Lisbon.
