Andal
Andal is a revered female saint and poet in the Vaishnavism tradition of Hinduism. She is known for her devotional hymns, particularly the Tiruppavai, which consists of 30 verses dedicated to the god Vishnu. Andal is celebrated for her deep devotion and is considered one of the twelve Alvars, who were poet-saints that expressed their love for God through poetry.
Born in the town of Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu, Andal is often depicted as a beautiful young woman adorned with flowers. She is unique among the Alvars because she is believed to have been born as a human but later merged with the divine. Her life and works continue to inspire countless devotees and are an integral part of Tamil literature and culture.
