Anastasio Somoza
Anastasio Somoza was a Nicaraguan politician and military leader who served as the President of Nicaragua from 1937 to 1947 and again from 1950 until his overthrow in 1956. He was part of the Somoza family dynasty, which ruled Nicaragua for over four decades. His regime was marked by authoritarianism, corruption, and close ties with the United States, particularly during the Cold War.
Somoza's rule faced significant opposition, leading to the rise of the Sandinista National Liberation Front, a revolutionary group that ultimately succeeded in overthrowing him. After his ousting, Somoza fled to the United States, where he lived until his assassination in 1956 in AsunciĆ³n, Paraguay.
