Amyloplast
An amyloplast is a type of organelle found in plant cells that is responsible for the synthesis and storage of starch. Starch is a vital carbohydrate that plants use as an energy reserve. Amyloplasts are typically located in non-photosynthetic tissues, such as roots and tubers, where they convert glucose into starch for storage.
These organelles are a subtype of plastids, which are specialized structures in plant cells involved in various functions, including photosynthesis and pigment storage. When plants need energy, amyloplasts can break down the stored starch back into glucose, providing a source of energy during periods of low light or when the plant is not actively photosynthesizing.
