Amoebic Abscess
Amoebic abscess is a localized collection of pus caused by the parasite Entamoeba histolytica. This organism primarily infects the intestines, leading to a condition known as amoebic dysentery. In some cases, the parasite can spread to other organs, particularly the liver, resulting in the formation of an abscess.
Symptoms of an amoebic abscess may include fever, abdominal pain, and weight loss. Diagnosis typically involves imaging studies, such as ultrasound or CT scans, and laboratory tests to identify the parasite. Treatment usually consists of antiparasitic medications and, in some cases, drainage of the abscess.
