Amoebic Dysentery
Amoebic dysentery is an intestinal infection caused by the parasite Entamoeba histolytica. It spreads through contaminated food and water, particularly in areas with poor sanitation. Symptoms include severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever, which can lead to dehydration if not treated.
Diagnosis is typically made through stool tests, and treatment often involves medications such as metronidazole or iodoquinol. Preventive measures include practicing good hygiene, drinking clean water, and ensuring food is properly cooked. If left untreated, amoebic dysentery can lead to serious complications, including perforation of the intestine.
