Ammotragus lervia
Ammotragus lervia, commonly known as the Barbary sheep or aoudad, is a species of wild sheep native to North Africa. It is characterized by its robust body, long legs, and distinctive curved horns, which can grow up to 30 inches in males. These animals typically inhabit rocky, mountainous regions and are well-adapted to arid environments.
Barbary sheep are social animals, often found in small herds led by a dominant male. They primarily graze on grasses and shrubs, using their keen eyesight to detect predators. Due to habitat loss and hunting, their populations have declined, leading to conservation efforts in some areas.
