American Volunteer Group
The American Volunteer Group (AVG), also known as the Flying Tigers, was a group of American pilots who served in the Chinese Air Force before the United States officially entered World War II. Formed in 1941, the AVG was created to help defend China against Japanese aggression. The group became famous for its distinctive shark-faced aircraft and effective combat tactics.
The AVG was led by retired U.S. Army Air Corps officer Claire Lee Chennault. The pilots flew combat missions, providing crucial air support and training to Chinese forces. The group was disbanded in 1942, but its legacy continued to inspire future generations of aviators and military personnel.
