American Occupation of Japan
The American Occupation of Japan began after World War II, lasting from 1945 to 1952. Led by General Douglas MacArthur, the occupation aimed to demilitarize and democratize Japan. The U.S. implemented reforms in various sectors, including education, land ownership, and labor rights, to promote democratic governance and economic recovery.
During this period, the Japanese Constitution was revised, establishing a parliamentary system and guaranteeing civil liberties. The U.S. also provided economic assistance through the Marshall Plan, helping Japan rebuild its economy. The occupation officially ended with the signing of the Treaty of San Francisco in 1951, restoring Japan's sovereignty.
