Amanita phalloides
Amanita phalloides, commonly known as the death cap mushroom, is a highly toxic fungus found in various parts of the world, particularly in Europe and North America. It typically has a greenish or yellowish cap, white gills, and a bulbous base. This mushroom often grows in association with certain trees, such as oak and pine, making it more challenging to identify.
Consumption of Amanita phalloides can lead to severe liver and kidney damage, and it is responsible for the majority of mushroom poisoning fatalities. Symptoms may not appear until 6 to 12 hours after ingestion, which can delay treatment. Proper identification and caution are essential when foraging for wild mushrooms.
