Aluminium Production
Aluminium production primarily involves extracting aluminium from its ore, bauxite. The process begins with crushing and grinding the bauxite, followed by refining it using the Bayer process, which separates aluminium oxide from impurities. This aluminium oxide is then subjected to electrolysis in a molten salt bath to produce pure aluminium metal.
Once produced, the aluminium can be cast into various shapes or rolled into sheets for different applications. The entire process is energy-intensive, often relying on electricity generated from renewable sources to minimize environmental impact. Key players in this industry include major companies like Rio Tinto and Alcoa.
