The Altamira Cave is a prehistoric site located in northern Spain, famous for its remarkable cave paintings. Discovered in 1868, the cave features vivid depictions of bison and other animals, created by early humans during the Upper Paleolithic period, around 36,000 years ago. These artworks are considered some of the finest examples of prehistoric art. The cave is part of the Altamira National Park and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. Due to concerns about preservation, access to the cave is limited, but replicas of the paintings can be found in the nearby Altamira Museum for public viewing.
