Alpha Virginis
Alpha Virginis, also known as Spica, is the brightest star in the constellation Virgo. It is approximately 250 light-years away from Earth and is classified as a blue giant. Spica is notable for its rapid rotation, completing a full spin in just a few days, which contributes to its unique shape.
This star is actually a binary system, consisting of two stars that orbit each other. The primary component is about 10 times more massive than the Sun and emits a significant amount of ultraviolet radiation. Spica is an important reference point for astronomers studying stellar evolution and the characteristics of massive stars.
