AlpTransit Gotthard
AlpTransit Gotthard is a major railway project in Switzerland that includes the construction of the Gotthard Base Tunnel, the world's longest railway tunnel. This tunnel stretches approximately 57 kilometers (35 miles) and allows trains to travel through the Swiss Alps at a lower elevation, significantly reducing travel time and improving efficiency for both passenger and freight transport.
The project was completed in 2016 and is part of a larger initiative to enhance the European rail network. By providing a faster and more reliable route, AlpTransit Gotthard aims to promote sustainable transportation and support economic growth in the region.
