Alloparenting
Alloparenting refers to a caregiving system where individuals other than the biological parents take on the responsibility of raising offspring. This practice is observed in various species, including some mammals, birds, and even humans. Alloparents can be relatives, such as siblings or grandparents, or unrelated individuals who contribute to the care and protection of young.
This behavior can enhance the survival rates of the young by providing additional resources and support. In human societies, alloparenting can be seen in communal living arrangements or among extended families, where multiple adults share the duties of childcare, benefiting both the children and the caregivers.
