Alignment System
An "Alignment System" is a framework used in various contexts, such as gaming and storytelling, to categorize characters or entities based on their moral and ethical perspectives. Typically, it consists of two axes: one representing good versus evil and the other representing law versus chaos. This creates a grid with nine possible alignments, helping to define a character's motivations and behaviors.
In role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons, the Alignment System aids players in making decisions that are consistent with their character's nature. For example, a Lawful Good character may prioritize helping others while adhering to rules, whereas a Chaotic Neutral character may act based on personal whims without regard for order or morality.
