Alexius III
Alexius III was a Byzantine Emperor who ruled from 1195 to 1203. He came to power by deposing his brother, Isaac II Angelos, and was known for his luxurious lifestyle and ineffective governance. His reign faced numerous challenges, including military threats from the Seljuk Turks and internal strife.
In 1203, Alexius III was overthrown during the Fourth Crusade, which aimed to reclaim the Holy Land but instead led to the conquest of Constantinople. He fled the city, and his departure marked a significant turning point in Byzantine history, leading to the establishment of the Latin Empire.
