Aldabra tortoises
The Aldabra tortoise is one of the largest tortoise species in the world, native to the Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles. These tortoises can weigh over 500 pounds and live for more than 100 years. They have a distinctive dome-shaped shell and sturdy legs, which help them navigate their island habitat.
Aldabra tortoises are herbivores, primarily feeding on grasses, leaves, and fruits. They play a crucial role in their ecosystem by helping to maintain vegetation and dispersing seeds. Due to their limited range and habitat loss, they are considered vulnerable, making conservation efforts essential for their survival.
