Aldabra tortoise
The Aldabra tortoise is one of the largest tortoise species in the world, native to the Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles. These tortoises can weigh over 500 pounds and live for more than 100 years. They have a distinctive dome-shaped shell and sturdy legs, which help them navigate their island habitat.
Aldabra tortoises are herbivores, primarily feeding on grasses, leaves, and fruits. They play a crucial role in their ecosystem by helping to maintain vegetation and dispersing seeds. Due to habitat loss and poaching, they are considered vulnerable, and conservation efforts are in place to protect their populations.
