Alaska Territory
The Alaska Territory was a region of the United States from 1912 until 1959, when it became the 49th state. It was originally purchased from Russia in 1867, a deal known as the Alaska Purchase. The territory covered a vast area, rich in natural resources and diverse wildlife, making it significant for both economic and strategic reasons.
During its time as a territory, Alaska experienced significant development, including the establishment of towns and infrastructure. The discovery of gold in the late 19th century led to a population boom, attracting many settlers. The territory's unique geography and culture continue to influence its identity today.
