Akosombo Dam
The Akosombo Dam is a large hydroelectric dam located on the Volta River in southeastern Ghana. Completed in 1965, it was built to generate electricity for the country and to support the development of the Volta River Project. The dam creates the Volta Lake, one of the largest artificial lakes in the world, which plays a crucial role in local fishing and transportation.
The dam has a total installed capacity of 1,020 megawatts, making it a significant source of power for Ghana and neighboring countries. It also helps regulate the flow of the river, reducing the risk of flooding downstream. The Akosombo Dam is vital for the economic growth and energy needs of the region.
