Volta River
The Volta River is a major river in West Africa, primarily flowing through Ghana. It is approximately 1,000 kilometers long and is formed by the confluence of the Black Volta and White Volta rivers. The river plays a crucial role in the region's ecosystem and economy, providing water for agriculture and fishing.
The Volta River is also home to the Akosombo Dam, which generates hydroelectric power for Ghana. This dam created the Volta Lake, one of the largest artificial lakes in the world. The river and its surrounding areas are vital for transportation and support local communities.
