Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee
The Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee (AWOC) was established in the 1960s to advocate for the rights and better working conditions of farm laborers in the United States. It aimed to unite agricultural workers, many of whom were marginalized and faced poor labor conditions, to fight for fair wages, benefits, and improved safety standards.
AWOC played a significant role in the labor movement, particularly in organizing strikes and negotiations with employers. The committee worked alongside other organizations, such as the United Farm Workers (UFW), to amplify the voices of agricultural workers and push for reforms in the farming industry.
