Agius of Catania
Agius of Catania, also known as Saint Agatha, is a revered Christian martyr and the patron saint of Catania, a city in Sicily, Italy. She is celebrated for her unwavering faith during the persecution of Christians in the 3rd century. According to tradition, Agatha was subjected to various tortures for refusing to renounce her beliefs, ultimately leading to her martyrdom.
Her feast day is observed on February 5th, and she is often depicted in art holding a tray with her severed breasts, symbolizing her suffering. Saint Agatha is also associated with protection against natural disasters, particularly volcanic eruptions from Mount Etna.
