African Methodist Episcopal
The African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church is a historically Black Christian denomination founded in the early 19th century in the United States. It emerged from the desire for African Americans to worship freely and independently, away from the racial discrimination prevalent in other churches. The AME Church emphasizes social justice, education, and community service.
The denomination was officially established in 1816 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by a group of Black Methodists, including Richard Allen, who became its first bishop. The AME Church has since grown globally, with congregations in various countries, promoting spiritual growth and advocating for civil rights.
