African Lodge No. 1
African Lodge No. 1 is a historic Masonic lodge founded in 1784 in Boston, Massachusetts. It was the first African American lodge in the United States and played a significant role in the history of African American fraternal organizations. The lodge was established by Prince Hall, an important figure in African American history, who sought to create a space for Black men to gather and support one another.
The lodge is part of the Prince Hall Freemasonry, which has its roots in the struggle for civil rights and social justice. African Lodge No. 1 provided a platform for community leadership and empowerment, fostering a sense of unity among African Americans during a time of widespread discrimination and segregation.
