African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights
The African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights is a regional body established in 1987 to promote and protect human rights across the African continent. It operates under the framework of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights, which outlines the rights and freedoms of individuals and groups in Africa. The Commission monitors compliance, investigates human rights violations, and provides recommendations to member states.
The Commission consists of 11 members who are elected by the African Union for six-year terms. It holds sessions to discuss human rights issues, receives complaints from individuals and organizations, and works to raise awareness about human rights through various initiatives and campaigns.
